03 — IT Management
The computers, the accounts and the closet, kept in order.
Small-office IT, done properly: machines that are set up the same way, accounts that are opened and closed on time, backups that restore, and an equipment room you are not embarrassed to open.
What we manage
The everyday technology the office runs on.
Computers
- Workstation setup
- New computers set up with the accounts, printers and software the job needs, ready on the first day.
- Updates and clean-ups
- Operating system and application updates kept current; slow, cluttered machines cleaned up or retired.
- Printers and scanners
- Installed, shared, and working from every desk that needs them.
Accounts and data
- Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
- Mailboxes, licenses, shared calendars and file permissions administered for you.
- Onboarding and offboarding
- New staff get their accounts, computer and phone together. Departing staff lose access the same day.
- Backups
- Business files and mail backed up, with restores tested so a backup is not just a hope.
The equipment room
- Clean-ups
- The closet with the tangle of cables and unlabeled boxes, taken apart and put back properly, after hours.
- Labeling
- Every cable, port and device labeled to match the written record.
- Power and placement
- Battery backup for the equipment that keeps the phones and internet up, and a layout that can be serviced.
After hours
Clean-ups and changeovers happen while the office is closed.
Equipment room clean-ups, workstation replacements and migrations are scheduled for nights and weekends. Staff come in the next morning, log in, and get to work.
- Equipment room and cabling clean-ups
- Workstation replacements and migrations
- Email and file moves between platforms
- New-hire setups ready for the first morning
On day one
We start by writing everything down.
The assessment produces a list of every computer, account, license and backup, who uses it and what state it is in. That list becomes the record we manage against, and it is yours.
What this is not
Honest about the scope.
We manage small and midsize offices. Some things are better done by a specialist, and we will say so and help you find one.
- Software development or custom line-of-business applications
- Enterprise security operations or compliance audits
- Around-the-clock staffed monitoring centers
- Hourly break/fix calls for businesses not under management (the Closet Reset is our one fixed-price project)
Under the same agreement
Start with an assessment
Let’s walk your office.
We map the phones, network, computers and accounts, and hand you a written picture of what you have and what we would change. Then you decide.
