Ooma ships you a phone system. We fit one to you.

Ooma Office is a do-it-yourself phone system: phones in a box, a portal for the call flow, an AI add-on you set up, and a network that is your job by contract. We design the call flow with you, build every phone and the AI receptionist, and run the network the calls ride on.

Facts about Ooma Office checked in October 2026, from their published pages and public records; third-party estimates are labelled. Every claim links to its source.

Fit

Who each is for

Ooma

Small offices that will set up and manage the system themselves and want a published per-user price.

SLINC

Businesses that want the system fitted to how they answer the phone, at each location, and one firm accountable for the phones and the network under them.

Side by side

Ooma and SLINC, row by row.

Advertised price

Ooma

$19.95, $24.95 or $29.95 per user per month, by plan, plus a one-time activation fee of $29.95. [1]

SLINC

We don’t publish a price. We write one monthly agreement for your office after the walk-through.

What sits on top

Ooma

Taxes and fees: “Applicable taxes and fees are not included” in the plan price, and the rates page lists them as “Varies by locale.” Extra phone numbers are $9.95 a month each. The AI add-on starts at $14.99 a month. [1] [2] [3]

SLINC

One monthly agreement, written for your office after the walk-through. Ask to see every line of the written proposal before you sign.

Phones

Ooma

Bought outright at $79.99 to $599.99, or rented on a 1-year or 3-year contract. The rental page lists a restocking fee of $39.99 to $399.99 per device, by model. [4] [5] [6]

SLINC

Yealink desk phones configured for each person: keys, labels and sidecars, built and test-called before cutover.

Who builds the call flow

Ooma

You do. Ooma sells it as “easy, DIY setup” and says you can “Deploy Ooma Office in about 15 minutes without technical expertise.” [7] [1]

SLINC

We do, with you, per location: the routes, the hours and holidays, and what happens when nobody can pick up. In writing, approved by you.

Who fixes the network

Ooma

You do. The terms read: “YOU MUST PROVIDE A RELIABLE AND UNINTERRUPTED NETWORK AND POWER CONNECTION TO YOUR EQUIPMENT AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE.” [8]

SLINC

We do. The firewall, switches and Wi-Fi run under the same agreement, set up for voice first.

AI receptionist

Ooma

A paid add-on. AI Answering Service starts at $14.99 per account per month with up to 40 minutes of call time; AI Receptionist is “Contact Sales for Pricing.” You set it up: “Add your greeting, business details, and FAQs.” [3]

SLINC

Built in-house on the newest realtime voice models and written into your call flow. It answers in your business name from a script we write with you, and warm-transfers urgent callers only after the person says yes.

Contract and exit

Ooma

Self-serve plans: “No Contract Necessary.” Fixed terms renew automatically unless you give written notice “at least ninety (90) days prior to the expiration”; ending early owes the charges through the end of the term. Up to $500 in liquidated damages for transferring your number “without Ooma’s consent.” [1] [9] [8]

SLINC

Written into your agreement before you sign. Ask for a copy at the walk-through.

Changes after go-live

Ooma

You, in the portal. Each user can “manage extension preferences” in the End User Portal, and the AI is managed “in the Ooma Office admin portal.” [1] [3]

SLINC

A call or an email in plain English. We make the change and confirm it back.

The setup

The setup: who does the work.

Ooma sells the setup as something you do yourself. We sell it as the work we do.

What Ooma asks of you

  • “Deploy Ooma Office in about 15 minutes without technical expertise.” [1]
  • “Phones arrive pre-configured, just plug in and start making calls.” [10]
  • Set up the AI yourself: “Add your greeting, business details, and FAQs,” then manage it “in the Ooma Office admin portal.” [3]
  • Keep the network running: the terms make “a reliable and uninterrupted network and power connection” your job, at your own expense. [8]

What we do instead

  • We walk each location with you and learn how your calls actually move.
  • We write the design: the call flow, hours and holidays, every desk’s keys and the AI receptionist’s script, for you to approve.
  • We build and label every phone and test the AI receptionist on a test line, to our written standard.
  • We cut over after you close: numbers ported, every route walked, every seat test-called.
  • We run it under one monthly agreement. Changes are a call or an email; we make them and confirm back.

The network

When calls break up.

“Set up QOS on your router by opening the following service ports in a DMZ … You may need to contact your router’s manufacturer or your Internet service provider for assistance.”

We run the firewall, switches and Wi-Fi under the same agreement, so choppy calls are ours to trace and fix.

Network

Choppy calls, and a switch nobody suspected.

Situation
A client’s calls kept breaking up. Each of their other providers said its side was fine.
What we found
The phones’ own call diagnostics pointed to the PoE switch in the equipment closet, which was producing collisions in its managed configuration.
What we fitted
We corrected the switch configuration and the calls cleared. The phones and the network they ride on are now run by one firm.

Terms

The fine print

What Ooma’s own terms and pricing pages say.

  • Ooma Office plan prices note “Applicable taxes and fees are not included”; the rates page lists taxes and fees as “Varies by locale.” [1] [2]
  • Additional phone numbers: $9.95 per number per month. [2]
  • Rental phone offers require a 1-year or 3-year contract, depending on the offer. [5]
  • Rental page restocking fees: $39.99 to $399.99 per device, by model. [6]
  • Fixed terms “shall automatically renew for additional terms equal to the Fixed Term” unless you notify Ooma in writing at least 90 days before the term ends. Ending early: “all monthly recurring charges and non-recurring charges which would otherwise be due through the end of the Term.” [9]
  • Ooma reserves the right to charge “liquidated damages of up to $500” if you transfer your number without its consent, without paying the transfer fee, or without meeting its prerequisites. [8]
  • The terms grant Ooma a license to analyze Customer Data, defined to include call recordings and call transcriptions, “to provide, support, train, protect from fraud, and improve the Services and Automated Processing technologies.” The same terms say Ooma does not use Customer Data to train third-party models except in connection with providing the service. [8]

Fair is fair

Where Ooma is stronger

Honest answers build trust, so here is where they win.

  • A price you can compare in seconds: $19.95, $24.95 or $29.95 per user, with “No Contract Necessary” on self-serve plans you can sign up for online. [1]
  • A publicly traded company operating at national scale. [12]
  • A support line it describes as available “24x7x365.” [1]
  • Ready-made insurance integrations: it “Integrates with the AgencyZoom sales suite,” connects AgencyMVP, and works with Caller Info Match, which a Farmers agent praises on the page. [10]

Questions

Ooma or SLINC: questions.

Is Ooma cheaper than SLINC?
Its advertised per-user price is low, and we don’t publish one. Compare what sits on top of that price (taxes and fees, extra numbers, the AI add-on, the phones) and who does the setup and the network. The real-cost calculator on our Compare page totals what you pay today.
Can I keep my Ooma phones?
Rented Ooma phones go back to Ooma under its rental terms. If you own your phones, tell us the models and we check whether we can set them up on our system. Most offices move to Yealink phones built for each desk.
I’m in an Ooma contract. What now?
Check the end date and the renewal notice: Ooma’s fixed terms renew unless you give written notice 90 days before the end. Bring the agreement to the walk-through and we time the port and the cutover around it.
Do I need IT for Ooma?
Ooma says you can set it up without technical expertise. Its terms also make a reliable network your responsibility, at your own expense. With us, the network is ours to run.
Is there an Ooma alternative on Long Island?
Yes, that is us. We fit the phone system, the AI receptionist and the network to each location in Nassau and Suffolk and run it under one monthly agreement. Book a walk-through at slinc.co/assessment or call (631) 446-2600.
